Developmental Education Requirements
Fundamental education courses are designed for students who need a refresher course before enrolling in credit-bearing courses. Fundamental courses are not offered for academic credit and do not fulfill graduation requirements. Students who take developmental education courses (ENG 090) must complete those courses with a grade of C or better.
A student who places into ENG 090 must take this course during the first quarter, unless the student is eligible for a deferral. A student may be eligible for a deferral based upon an official or unofficial transcript indicating transferable English credit, or the student has signed a form indicating that he or she earned college level credit in English or communications from, and completed a transcript request form to, an institution recognized by an agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A student is eligible for a deferral during the second term of enrollment if approved by a Campus Dean. Developmental English requirements may not be deferred for a third or subsequent term under any circumstances.
Students without transfer credit in mathematics must attempt MAT 104 no later than their second term of enrollment. Students must complete MAT 104 with a grade of C or better by the end of their third term.
A student taking ENG 090 may concurrently enroll in CIS 105, BUS 100, any elective course, or any appropriate 100 level General Studies course. A student enrolled in ENG 090 who does not earn a passing grade may repeat the course pursuant to the Course Repeat Policy. A student who resides within 15 miles of a campus where a developmental education course is offered must repeat the developmental education course on campus. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is not subject to developmental education requirements.
